Wooden box, ink on paper, 1440 microscope coverslips.

17 x 32 cm

Unique piece

The piece proposes to generate dialogues between the current situation faced by the elderly in order to have a proper diet and how abstract the statistical graphs presented by the official media on the subject can be.
By layering these small crystals, a bar chart was generated that marks the "variables" of a fragment of conversation with José, an elderly man who wanders the streets searching for food. In a microscope, the coverslip protects and isolates the sample being analyzed while simultaneously improving its clarity; in this piece, the crystals amplify and distort the words, making them more or less legible depending on the viewing angle.
This crystal graph not only underscores the fragility of the subject and the urgent attention it requires, but also reminds us of the multiple layers that make up a phenomenon, depending on the lens through which we choose to view it.

"Boy, what can I say? Why even talk about food? I live on the streets, I eat off the streets. As long as I can walk, I won't go hungry."

José, 83 years old.
