Documentation of land development work carried out by a military construction company.
The work begins with a singular operation: transforming the photographic paper into sealed letter envelopes, which are printed in the darkroom. Once they are opened for chemical development, not only do the images emerge, but also a deconstruction of the landscape is produced as a final image. This photographic documentation starts from an “objective record” to arrive at a fragmented image, which can acquire an abstract character. The envelope, conceived as a container of information, becomes a vessel of emptiness as content, inviting the viewer to reconstruct the images according to his or her own experiences. The work invites us to reflect on the ambiguity inherent to photography as a form of representation, while reminding us of the uncertainty surrounding military actions and their often irreversible consequences on earth.
